Today - A Landmark At Risk
The Carriera’s purchased The Mirasol in 2021 and have proudly taken on the responsibility and challenges of stewarding the century-old building. In three years, they have already invested significantly in repairs, maintenance, and improvements to preserve the property. Improvements under their ownership include:
Complete reconstruction of the property’s docks, replacing the collapsing structure to ensure
long-term stability and functionality.Common area investments and improvements, including a new pet spa
Numerous unit and interior renovations
Waterproofing repairs
Furniture replacement throughout the interiors
Plumbing system repairs and partial replacement
Numerous windows replaced
Roofing repairs and main tower roof replacement
In addition to interior repairs, the Carriera’s have enhanced the surrounding property with a dog park, outdoor grilling stations, and landscaping enhancements throughout the property.
To further expand the property’s appeal, they have converted a handful of units to furnished rentals. This effort has been well received by locals in need of temporary accommodations for themselves, and visiting friends and family. These units were a further benefit to the Davis Islands community following the hurricanes. The Mirasol also established a housing partnership with TGH, and regularly house patients and families from all over the country who are receiving critical care.
Every improvement and effort were made to improve and fortify the building as well as serve the needs of the community.

INTRODUCED SHORT-TERM CORPORATE RENTALS
The current owners introduced corporate short-term rentals to better serve our local community. These thoughtfully designed accommodations provide a welcoming space for locals, Tampa General Hospital patients, their families, and visiting professionals, offering comfort and convenience in a time of need. The positive reception from our guests reaffirms our commitment to blending community support with timeless hospitality.
However, like many century-old properties, the scope of repairs, maintenance, and modernization has continued to grow. With the goal to ensure the Mirasol stands for the next hundred years, a significant investment and renovation of the property is necessary.
This need was exacerbated this October. Along with many others on Davis Islands and in Greater Tampa, The Mirasol suffered significant damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Storm surge flooded basements and wind damaged the façade, roof, and windows across the property. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing were out of service, as were both elevators in the building. The grand lobby was flooded with 12” of water. The wind broke windows, blew off roof tiles and caused water penetration through the building’s walls, windows and doors. Repairs are ongoing; however, the Mirasol remains at risk. The need for long-term repairs has grown, as has the urgency for those repairs.
